This mountain race, organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife through Ideco, continues to be an unmissable date for lovers of sports, the mountains, and personal growth in unique natural environments.
The race, which is part of the UTMB® World Series, has become a global trail running benchmark due to its diverse routes, physical challenges, and spectacular landscapes that stretch from the coast to an altitude of 3,555 meters in the Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Distances, categories, and elite access
The 2026 Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® will celebrate its fifteenth edition using the same routes debuted in 2025. In total, 10 categories will be offered, including distances, relays, and side events, with a total of 3,200 bibs available for runners from all over the world.
Among the most prominent races that allow runners to earn scores for the UTMB® World Series Finals are the following main distances:

In addition to these main distances, the event includes additional formats to broaden participation:
- 47K Relay: a relay race — 500 spots available.
- Vertical Night Challenge: a 3.5 km night climb in the Asomadero area — 100 spots.
- Children’s, family, and adapted categories (Reto and Joëlettes), open to the general public.
Registration will open with priority access for runners with a valid UTMB® Index, followed by general registration for all other interested participants.
These formats ensure that the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® is not just a race for the elite, but an accessible experience for different levels and motivations within the trail running community.
Pure nature
The uniqueness of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® lies in its exceptional layout, which starts at sea level and culminates in the heights of Spain’s highest volcano. Participants traverse a mosaic of landscapes reflecting the natural richness of Tenerife, including:
- coastal trails with views of the Atlantic Ocean,
- laurisilva forests with lush vegetation,
- volcanic lava fields and spectacular rock formations,
- pine forests ascending gently toward the high plateau,
- and finally, the volcanic environments of the Teide National Park.
This display of biodiversity and changing environments makes the race a unique experience for both runners and spectators, who can enjoy surprising and varied nature along routes that are as demanding as they are emotional.
The race also maintains a clear commitment to sustainability. The organization remains linked to the “Tenerife Renace” project, promoted by the Cabildo, aimed at restoring the forests affected by the major 2023 fire, proving that sport can be a driver for conservation and respect for ecosystems.
Prestige, international participation, and impact of the Tenerife Bluetrail
The Tenerife Bluetrail stands out not only for its physical demands but also for its international reach. In its last edition, the race brought together 3,200 runners from over 65 nationalities, mobilizing a vast logistics, security, and volunteer operation. This major sporting event generated a significant economic return and stood out as one of the most important mountain races in the Canary Islands calendar.
Its inclusion in the UTMB® World Series for the third consecutive year has bolstered its global projection, attracting high-level runners seeking to collect points for the grand final at UTMB® Mont-Blanc, one of the most prestigious events in the trail running world.
