Best Volcanic Sand Beaches in Northern Tenerife

Northern Tenerife offers a unique experience thanks to its black volcanic sand beaches, impressive cliffs, and a tranquil atmosphere. Here is a selection of the best beaches in the north, perfect for nature lovers in its purest form.

1. El Bollullo Beach

Located in the municipality of La Orotava, this beach is one of the most famous in the north due to its spectacular black sand and its setting surrounded by banana plantations. Although access requires walking along a path, the view from above and the wild environment make it an unmissable destination. However, one must be careful due to its strong waves, but it is an ideal destination for surfers.

2. Benijo Beach

Nestled in the spectacular Anaga Rural Park, Benijo offers a stunning natural setting, with volcanic rocks emerging from the ocean and unforgettable sunsets. It is a place that remains untouched and far from mass tourism, making it a hidden gem for those seeking a direct connection with nature. It is popular among surfers and hiking enthusiasts, but swimming here requires great caution.

3. Los Patos Beach

Close to El Bollullo, Los Patos is the largest volcanic sand beach in Tenerife, ideal for those seeking solitude and unspoiled nature. Although it is known as a nudist beach, it is also very popular with surfers due to its consistent waves. Its difficult access ensures a truly relaxing atmosphere without crowds.

4. Castro Beach

Hidden between cliffs in Los Realejos, Castro Beach is a virgin spot that can only be reached on foot. Its freshwater waterfalls cascading over the rocks and its seclusion make it a dream destination for those looking to relax in the heart of nature.

5. Almáciga Beach

In the Anaga Rural Park, Almáciga is another black sand beach ideal for surfers. Surrounded by mountains and offering panoramic views of the Atlantic, it boasts a wild and natural atmosphere. Although access is much easier than some of the beaches mentioned earlier, its waves are usually strong, so swimmers are advised to take extra care.

6. Los Roques Beach

This beach, near Puerto de la Cruz, is characterized by its impressive volcanic rock formations emerging from the sea. Los Roques is one of the most picturesque beaches in the north, perfect for quiet walks and enjoying nature. During low tide, the landscape transforms, allowing you to walk among the rocks and appreciate their geological beauty.

7. El Ancón Beach

For those seeking more remote adventures, El Ancón is a virgin beach with difficult access, ensuring few visitors. It is located between Los Patos and El Bollullo, and can be reached via a path between cliffs. Although it is spectacular, its isolation means it lacks services, so it is advisable to bring everything necessary for a day out.     Now that you know all our paradisiacal beaches, you just have to decide when and with whom to visit Northern Tenerife, we are waiting for you!
